Learn MoreOriental Medicine refers to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and the influences of other east Asian medicinal practices. The principles of Oriental Medicine include the following, as adapted from tcmworld.org:
The body is an integrated whole. Your physical body, along with the mind, emotions, and soul or spirit, forms a dynamic and whole system. Just as the body is one part making up the whole you, the body itself is a perfect, interrelated system within itself. Every atom and structure in your body has a vital role to play. This system is powered by your Qi, or life force.
You are connected to, and impacted by, nature. Nothing exists in a vacuum, and that applies to humans, as well. Changes in nature and the environment will be reflected in your body. When studying your health issues, Oriental Medicine will take into account the season, weather, geographical location, and time of day, as well as your physical conditions.
Your body can heal itself. Nature has a remarkable ability to regenerate and repair itself; as part of nature, we do too. In some cases, this innate ability can be hard to access or appears lost, but in almost all cases, it can be regained.
Prevention is the best cure. Our bodies are constantly communicating with us about our state of health, but too often, we ignore these signs or don’t know how to interpret them. Oriental Medicine teaches us how to understand our body’s signals.
